As we reflect upon recent events and the history of injustice leading up to them, we want those standing up for equality to know that we stand with you. We will continue to scrutinize our own practices in an effort to be better and to do better for our company, our community, and our country.

We acknowledge the lack of diversity in climbing and want to do our part to re-evaluate our structure as a company to help break down that barrier. We strive to create a more inclusive climbing community through our actions.

ACTIONS

1. Increase support for BIPOC meetup groups; proceeds from POC climb nights to be donated to equal justice initiatives

2. Develop further initiatives to provide access to outdoor climbing for climbers of color, including yearly Color the Crag scholarship

3. Connect with local community boards to understand community needs and act accordingly

4. Revitalize hiring systems to increase diversity in leadership positions; continue to work with organizations that provide job placement for local members of the community

5. Make our gyms in communities of color accessible to locals with scholarships

6. Continued staff training on diversity and inclusion

7. Donate + fundraise for BLM-focused organizations

YOUTH PROGRAMS

CLIMBUP

Founded in 2013, this program continues to provide hundreds of low-income at-risk youth scholarships to a safe space through free after-school climbing programs and memberships. We strive to create jobs for kids who grow through the ClimbUp program At The Cliffs at LIC. The goal is to provide long-term success and support to youth in the community.

Kinship climbing collective (Formerly young women who crush)

This free climbing and leadership development program provides opportunities for high school girls in NYC to experience the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of rock climbing. We empower NYC high school girls through indoor and outdoor rock climbing adventures that build community, cultivate confidence, nurture leadership skills, and foster a deep respect for the natural world. Meetups occur in person at The Cliffs at LIC.
